Pressure Release

So what is pressure release and why is it so useful when training a horse. Especially when loading.

I'm fortunate enough to get out and about quite a lot with Maggie and Belle . My 2 ex racers . They are generally quite easy going and both travel well . Albeit may need a little encouragement to walk into the trailer. 🤔

I'm not sure if I'm just more aware of loading, but I always seem to see people struggling with tricky loaders and wonder how much they know about pressure release. I've witnessed ponies being pulled into trailers and lunge lines or even brushes being used! It seems to be a real fight and the horses almost always lean against the pressure used to make them go in!

So why does the Paradise Precison halter work in such a calm and positive way?

I need to explain a few things that were lightbulb moments for me . Horses are so sensitive they can feel a fly when it lands on their back. This gives an understanding that even though they are so big, they actually don't need very much pressure to be trained using pressure release . In fact if you use too much pressure they may become overwhelmed or just learn to ignore it .

We can also use different types of pressure release . Static pressure can be seen when we increase contact on the reins to stop a horse . Or dynamic pressure might be used when we squeeze and release our leg to maintain a trot . Interestingly it's not the squeeze of the leg that allows your horse to move forward . It's actually the release .

Then you have draw pressure and that's what the Paradise Precison halter does to draw your horse forward when the pressure is released . It uses the horses natural instincts to fill an opening . You might use draw pressure to train a horse to leg yield .

The beauty of draw pressure is that the horse actually seeks it out after it's experienced it . This is why using the Paradise Precision halter has made loading easier every time our customers use it . To the point where the horse will literally load itself .

But aren't all halters the same 🧐. I can't speak for other control halters although they do all tend to use pressure . What I can tell you is that the Paradise Precision halter only puts pressure behind the ears, and this keeps things super clear . It's a simple design to allow the pressure to release immediately and this really helps horses to understand the ask.

The most common feedback is that horses are loading and getting it in super quick time . Not fighting as pressure can be set by the handler to keep things very subtle . I believe horses get it as the Paradise Precison Halter only has 1 pressure point whereas other halters place pressure across several areas .

So actually we use pressure release in so many situations and it can honestly change your commicaton with your horse which can be such a rewarding thing.

I’m very lucky to have horses at home and my set up includes stables and a couple of paddocks with a stream that runs through the fields....
